About me? I was born on the Isle of Wight and grew up just outside Portsmouth where I spent the next 23 years thinking there had to be somewhere better. Manic Street Preachers made me want to explore art, literature, and philosophy so after driving a fork-lift-truck for a few years, and pursuing a passion for photography and design in my spare time, I decided to bite the bullet and go to Art College full time to see what it was like to be a slacker student!
After 2 years of very hard work in Bournemouth Institute under the expert tutorage of pros like Mike Smith, and Jack Daniels- and the critical theory guidance of Jim Campbell, l emerged with a portfolio, confidence, assisting experience, and a reasonable knowledge of the industry before me.
I then spent the following 12 months after graduation getting married, renovating a flat, and working on building sites and night shifts in supermarkets to save money for equipment.
Within 6 months of informing Inland Revenue of my new career in April 2005, I had achieved commissions with Q magazine, The Independent on Sunday, The Times T2, You Magazine and regular shifts with the Southampton Echo (much to my grandmothers pride!). It appeared London could be cracked from a considerable distance.
I am still one of the main contributors to Q magazine, (If I'm name checking lecturers then a big thank you goes to Steve Peck for constant belief) and work for many other varying publications. I syndicate all my work through the Retna Picture Agency where I am slowly building up a considerable pension fund!
I am now based in leafy Berkshire with a young family where I have a studio for portraiture and product photography, but still relish the London atmosphere and creativity!
Equipment wise I use high end Canon digital cameras, Canon flash systems on location and Delicacy/Bowens studio equipment. I also try to use that vast flaming ball in the sky whenever possible and bounce it around with tin-foil.
My interests are predictably my beautiful family, my dog Guinness, photography and art, motorcycles, and mountain biking in the forest where I live.
